Twenty-two young girls participated in the first day of UTB Summer Volleyball Camp Friday at Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium.
The girls, between the ages of 7 and 13, will continue for four hours of training Saturday and four more on Sunday. A volleyball camp for girls ages 14 to 18 will be held July 27-29.
"The girls will learn the basic fundamentals of the volleyball, like passing, setting, serving, defense, hitting and blocking," said Roberta Santos, UTB assistant volleyball coach. "Most important is that they have a good time and have fun."
The second camp later in July for the older players will have a different focus.
"The younger kids need to learn more about technique, and how to go after every single ball," Santos said. "The older girls' camp will be more about volleyball skills. There will be more dynamics and practice in game-like situations where they have to use their intelligence in certain situations."
