The Educational Talent Search Program is based on discovering, developing, and implementing a solution to the low rate of target student population entering postsecondary institutions. Its primary purpose is to help increase and better prepare the pool of college bound students in the Brownsville area. The doors the program will open will not only change individual lives, but will also have immediate and long-term benefits for this South Texas region.
It is the intent of the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) to undertake this urgent task to shape a more prepared student population that can take charge of its future. The program goals are designed to provide awareness of the college application and admission process, to offer parenting skills and training, to expose students to funding sources such as scholarships, grants, and other financial aid programs, and to provide university campus awareness to participants by touring colleges and universities in Texas.
The Educational Talent Search Program is a comprehensive intervention support services program designed to empower eligible students and high school dropouts to make positive choices and changes that will enable them to pursue a program of higher education. The program’s intent will be to show these individuals that it is possible to dream of options beyond dropping out and getting an entry-level position; that they can plan for a future that includes completing high school and pursuing a postsecondary education.
