Dr. Robert A. Lozano was elected to the board in May 2010. He is originally from San Antonio and started his education in junior college there. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, he joined the Army and served as an infantry officer advising South Vietnamese troops from 1970-71.
After the Army, he obtained a master's degree and Ph.D. from Wayne State University in speech and language pathology. He has published research in language recovery after brain injury. Lozano received his M.D. from Michigan State University and practiced neurology for more than 20 years.
Presently, he is the vice president for Medical Affairs for Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. Lozano has served on various community boards of directors including boards of the Rio Grande Valley Indigent Health Care Corporation and the Brownsville Farmer’s Market.
