May 2010-May 2016
Juan “Trey” Mendez III was born and raised in Brownsville. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Government from UTB/TSC in 2002. While at UTB/TSC, he was an inaugural member of the Scorpion golf team and served as sports editor of The Collegian, the student newspaper. He went on to receive his law degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 2005. At the time of his acceptance to the UT School of Law in 2002, Mendez was only the second UTB/TSC alumnus to have been accepted into the prestigious program. During his three years in Austin, Mendez was instrumental in encouraging other UTB/TSC students to attend the law school.
Mendez has served on the Texas Exes Scholarship Committee at The University of Texas at Austin since 2006. He enjoys renovating historical properties and is the co-owner of the Fernandez building and the Old Brownsville Jail, two of Brownsville's most important historical structures. His passion for Brownsville’s rich history resulted in his appointment as Chairman of the Brownsville Heritage Council.
Mendez currently has his own law practice known as the Mendez Law Firm on Elizabeth Street.
