MBRS RISE Program Background
Beginning Fall 2004, UTB/TSC, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) embarked on a research opportunity for UTB/TSC students and faculty through the Minority Biomedical Research Support Program.
MBRS began in 1972 as a long-term investment to strengthen minority institutions’ research capabilities and to provide for student participation in research. MBRS is designed to provide grants to minority institutions to support investigator-initiated research and to enhance faculty, student, and institutional development. Within the MBRS, RISE (Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement) seeks to enhance the research environment at minority institutions. The overall goal is to increase the interest, skills, and competitiveness of students and science faculty in pursuit of biomedical and behavioral research careers at UTB.
