"Raise Your Voice" Forum, Oct. 19, 2005
Sent: October 24, 2005

On Oct. 19, UTB-TSC’s Center for Civic Engagement hosted a Raise Your Voice forum in the Gorgas Board room that brought together elected and appointed officials to discuss four proposed city charter amendments (1, 8, 10, 11). CCE student scholar Clayton Wilson served as student-moderator for the standing-room only crowd. “This was an important event,” Wilson said. “It allowed the campus community to be informed on these issues that impact our city.” Speaking on behalf of the city charter amendments included: City Commissioner Edward Camarillo (Proposition 1), Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation president Arnold Benson (Proposition 8), City Commissioner Ernie Hernandez (Proposition 10 and 11). Speaking against the city charter amendments included: Brownsville Public Utilities Board member Pat Ahumada (Proposition 1 and 10), Brownsville PUB member (Proposition 8), and Brownsville PUB member Cris Valadez (Proposition 11). Early voting for the proposed changes to the city charter began Monday, Oct. 24 and continues through Friday, Nov. 4th at the following sites: the Cameron County Courthouse in the Old Sheriff’s Office at 954 E. Harrison St., Brownsville Public Library at 2600 Central Blvd., the UTB/TSC MRC North Building on Ridgely Road, Christ the King Catholic Church at 2255 Southmost Blvd. and the Brownsville Independent School district offices at 1900 Price Road. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8th. After you've watched the videos, please vote On-Line "For" or "Against" the City Charter Amendments.
