Service Learning project:

As part of my Trickle-Up Service Learning project, I worked with Dr. James Cuvillier, a faculty member in the Biology department. We worked together to encourage his students to take part and assist in an annual Arbor day event. To do so, we spoke to some of his classes and posted flyers around campus, to promote the event.

During the Arbor Day event, we had the privilege of helping low income families with the construction of their homes, planting several native trees on their properties, helping bring out the personality of their already beautiful new homes. Over seventy volunteers, including UTB/TSC students, faculty, staff, alongside community members and homeowners gathered to take part in the Arbor Day event.

At the end of our very productive event, we enjoyed delicious chicken sandwiches that were graciously donated by Chik-fil-A. I really enjoyed participating in the event because it gave me a chance to help out the community as well as help Dr. Cuvillier and his students reach out. There’s just something about getting your hands dirty and helping out others that makes me feel good. The gratitude of the families was especially heartwarming.
