Erick Darbo Diaz, a valley native, graduated from the University of Houston, Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, with a Bachelor of Architecture. Upon graduation, Erick worked for internationally recognized Architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca in Barcelona, Spain.
Prior to joining the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, Erick practiced with a local architecture firm where he collaborated on residential and commercial projects throughout Texas. Erick is currently in the process of becoming a Registered Architect in the state of Texas.
Erick is a member of the Lower Rio Grande Valley American Institute of Architects and is the former Intern Director for that organization. In addition to his participation on the Executive Board, he is involved in the Scholarship Committee, Golf Committee, Special Events Committee, and Honors Committee.
As a faculty member of the Architecture Program at UTB/TSC, Erick teaches various architecture courses and is leading the Study Abroad Program at Seville, Spain. He is also collaborating in the creation of a design/build studio which will allow students to engage the community and realize practical energy efficient designs.
Research interests include affordable energy efficient housing solutions. He is also interested in exploring ideas for revitalizing downtown Brownsville which include creating linkages between UTB/TSC, Mitte Cultural District, and the City of Matamoros. As well as developing pre-fab modern architecture and how manufacturing efforts in the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico can lower the cost of such products.
