Biography:

Jose Marcelo Garza joined the faculty of Texas Southmost College in 1987. He served as chair of the Department of English and Speech at UTB from 1993 to 1999 and as director of the Sabal Palms Writing Project, a local site of the National Writing Project, from 2003 through 2005.

He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in creative writing from San Francisco State University, and B.A. in philosophy from Austin College, in Sherman, Texas. In addition to creative writing, he has teaching specialties in American literature and American culture and criticism.
