Writers Live @ UTB & TSC
Our goal is to bring writers of all types to the campus to expose the student body to the fact that novelists, poets, and memoirists are very much alive and active in the world. Through this series we want to have the writer interact with the student body as much as possible, while also offering a public reading and book signing as a nightly event. Throughout the course of the writer’s visit, the writer will make a classroom visit to one of the literature or creative writing courses being offered at the time as well as offer a workshop where anyone UTB student, staff, or faculty member will be encouraged to partake in, and then we will offer a lunch on the last day of the writer’s visit where anyone can come and speak with the author in a more relaxed setting. All of these events will occur over a two-day period, usually on a Thursday and Friday. In this endeavor we intend to bring literature to the UTB campus in an effort to encourage our students to read and potentially become creative writers.
Throughout the course of the academic year we will plan to bring down 4 writers, 2 per semester. This year 2012-2013, we have scheduled as follows:
Manuel Martinez • Novelist, Texas Institute of Letters • 7 p.m. Thu., Feb. 7 • Gran Salón
