Dorothy Boven was born and raised in Holland, Michigan, where she graduated from Hope College in the areas of Spanish and sociology. After a brief sojourn in Southern California, she relocated to Edinburg, Texas, to complete her Master's degree in Spanish, English and related areas (M.A.I.S.). She then moved to Brownsville, Texas, to teach a variety of courses in Spanish and English in the Department of Modern Languages at what was then Texas Southmost College (now UTB) and has been employed by the institution ever since. She worked for 21 years in the Department of Modern Languages and is currently working in the Department of English teaching courses such as Writing Skills, Composition, English Grammar, Intro to ESL and Linguistics. She is widely traveled, and has lived and studied in several foreign countries.
