The Sabal Palms Writing Project is a sponsored program of the University that is dedicated to helping local teachers improve writing instruction. Sabal Palms is one of nearly 200 sites of the National Writing Project, which is funded through the Federal Department of Education and is dedicated to improving writing instruction in schools across the country. The Sabal Palms summer institute is an intense five-week program for teachers to develop their own writing abilities while being trained to lead professional development workshops in local schools. Sabal Palms offers a variety of professional development experiences for teachers throughout the year; these include attending regional and national conferences, writing retreats sponsored by the National Writing Project, and local workshops on a range of topics that are conducted by teacher-consultants trained in our summer institute.
