Dr. Art Brownlow holds a D.M.A. in trumpet performance from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.M. in trumpet performance from Northwestern University, and B.M.E. from Furman University.
Dr. Brownlow is principal trumpet of the Valley Symphony and performed in the inaugural concert of the Festival Internacional de Otoño in Matamoros, Mexico. He has performed as a member of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra at the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC, and at the Festival dei Due Monde in Spoleto, Italy.
Dr. Brownlow's honors include selection for membership in the Alpha Chapter, Northwestern University, of Pi Kappa Lambda, National Music Honor Society; and selection for membership in The University of Texas Graduate Honor Society.
In addition to publishing numerous articles, Dr. Brownlow wrote "The Last trumpet: A History of the English Slide Trumpet." It was a joint project between Pedragon Press and the Historic Brass Society, and the first offering in a new series of books titled "Bucina: The Historic Brass Society Series."
Dr. Brownlow teaches trumpet, music history, conducting, and music appreciation.
