Advisory Committee Members
EFFECTIVE USE OF ADVISORY COMMITTEES: Each institution must establish separate program advisory committees for each workforce education program or cluster of closely related programs. The broad purposes of an advisory committee are to help a college or school document a need for a workforce education program and to ensure that the program has adequate resources, is well-designed, and serves industry in preparing students with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success in an increasingly competitive workforce.
FUNCTIONS OF A PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE:
- Evaluating the goals and objectives of the program curriculum to assure that the program is meeting the changing needs of the business community
- Making recommendations for improving programs
- Establishing workplace competencies for the program occupations
- Identifying new developments in technology
- Providing on-the-job and cooperative training opportunities
- Assisting in long-range and annual plans
- Suggesting program revisions as needed
- Evaluating the adequacy of existing college facilities and equipment
- Assisting with the selection and acquisition of new college equipment
- Identifying leaders within the local business and industrial community who will provide students help with external learning experiences, employment, and placement opportunities
- Assisting in the professional development of the faculty serving in public relations by promoting and publicizing the program to the community, business, and industry
- Representing the needs of students from special populations
- Guiding the establishment of new programs and degrees
