Dear Prospective Doctoral Student:


Thank you for your interest in our program. This is an exciting time to be involved in higher education. The continued growth in South Texas increases the need for educators with advanced degrees in the years ahead. We look forward to working with you to meet your professional growth and development goals.

The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College is now accepting applications for admission into the program for Education Doctorate (Ed. D. Degree) in Curriculum and Instruction. The degree is offered with specializacions in biligual studies, early childhood, literacy or leadership.

The application booklet, along with the Doctoral Admissions Application are for your use in applying to the program. Complete applications must be received prior to 5:00 pm on March 1, 2010 at the Office of Graduate Studies in order to be considered for the cohort that is scheduled to begin fall semester 2010. Applications received after March 1, 2010 will be reviewed for admission to the 2010 cohort.

A Faculty Selection Committee from the College of Education, Deparments of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation and Language,
Literacy and Intercultural Studies, will review all complete applications. All applicants will be notified of status on June 1, 2010.

The College of Education
offers the Doctor of Education (Ed.D. Degree) in Curriculum and Instruction with Specialization in:

A specializacion in Higher Education Teaching is planned for possible implementation in fall 2010.

The Doctor of Education (Ed. D. degree) in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Bilingual Studies prepares educators to assume leadership positions in institutions of higher education, local, regional, and independent school districts at multiple levels. The Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College provides school districts throughout Texas and nationwide with individuals that have sufficient and specific expertise to formulate and lead PK-16 programs. In addition, the degree enables successful candidates to teach in colleges and universities, many of which are faced with a shortage of qualified faculty. To this end, the degree provides a qualified pool of teacher educators for institutions of higher education throughout Texas and the nation.
