The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College is part of The University of Texas System. The University serves about 17,000 students at its campus located in Brownsville, Texas.  UTB/TSC is situated about 25 miles from South Padre Island and just across the border from Matamoros, Mexico.  The College of Education (
http://coe.utb.edu) serves over 5,000 graduate and undergraduate students each semester.  The College of Education offers 32 undergraduate programs, 13 master degrees, and four doctoral specializations.  With the continued growth of the University and the development of new programs within the College of Education, applications are invited for the following positions.

Positions available for Fall 2010


Open Rank Professor in Bilingual /Biliteracy/Intercultural Education
Reports to: Chairperson of Department of Language, Literacy, and Intercultural Studies
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in bilingual education, biliteracy, and intercultural education (Spanish/English); demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written Spanish; develop/maintain an active research/publication record; advise students; collaborate in further development of innovative undergraduate and graduate programs; participate in school/university collaborations; pursue an external funding agenda; and incorporate technology into coursework. This is a fulltime tenure-track position to begin employment Fall 2010.
Education: Earned doctorate in bilingual education, biliteracy, intercultural/global education or closely related area.
Experience: At least three years teaching experience with language minority populations (Spanish/English) is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bilingual teacher education and demonstrated record of scholarly and funded research in the area of bilingual, biliteracy, and intercultural/global education. NCATE experience is a plus.

Assistant/Associate Professor Science Education, EC-12th Grade
Reports to: Chairperson of Department of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science education methods, develop and maintain an active research/publication agenda, advise students; supervise field based experiences; collaborate in further development of undergraduate (RA.I.S.,EC-6th Grade Generalist) and graduate programs (M.Ed. Curriculum & Instruction); participate in school/university/community collaborations, pursue an aggressive external funding agenda, and incorporate technology into coursework. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2010.
Education: Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or Science Education is required.
Experience: At least three (3) years of public school teaching with educational technology at EC-12th grade level with classroom responsibilities is required. Preference will be given to candidates with campus; district-wide curriculum and professional development experience with language minority, ESL and migrant populations (English/Spanish) experience in a teacher preparation program, and demonstrate record or potential for scholarship and grant initiatives. Be supportive of school/university collaborations.

Assistant/Associate Professor Mathematics and/or Science Methods, EC-8th Grade

Reports to: Chairperson of Teaching, Learning and Innovation
Scope: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and science methods, develop and maintain an active research/publication agenda, advise students; supervise field based experiences, collaborate in further development of undergraduate and graduate program in mathematics and science education; participate in school/university/community collaborations, pursue an aggressive external funding agenda, and incorporate technology in coursework. This is a full-time tenure track position to begin employment Fall 2010.
Education: Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or related field.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching in mathematics and/or science at EC-12th grade level with classroom responsibilities is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a wide range of teaching experiences; district-wide curriculum and professional development experience with language minority, ESL and migrant populations (English/Spanish) experience in a teacher preparation program, and demonstrate record or potential for scholarship and grant initiatives. Assistant/Associate Professor Early Childhood Education
Reports to
: Chairperson of EPLS (Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies)
Scope
: Teach baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral courses in Early Childhood education; Coordinate curriculum of the Center of Early Childhood Studies, and serve as the COE Faculty Research Liaison. Develop and maintain an active research/publication agenda; participate in school/university collaborations, pursue an external funding agenda, and incorporate technology in coursework.  This is a full-time tenure track position.
Education
: Earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education or Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Early Childhood. 
Experience
: Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with culturally and linguistically preschool diverse populations, a record of scholarship and grant initiatives, and experience in a teacher preparation program.
Program
: The Early Childhood Education program consists of faculty who teach the undergraduate, masters and doctoral level courses.  For research purposes, the faculty has access to a National Accredited (NAEYC) Center for Early Childhood Studies as an experimental preschool.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Educational Leadership

Reports to: Chairperson of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies
Scope: The preferred candidate would possess extensive leadership experience in K-12 education settings, specifically in the area of the professional growth and development of superintendents/principals. Prior experience in conducting superintendent/principal evaluations is sought. This is a tenure-track position to begin employment Fall 2010.
Education: Earned doctorate in Educational Administration/Leadership
Experience: Primary responsibilities of the position will include teaching graduate courses, research and supervising administrative interns. Additionally, the candidate should have extensive experience in working with school boards, central office personnel, business and other community stakeholders. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in supervising students in field settings, successful higher education teaching experience. The candidate should demonstrate record or potential for scholarship and grant initiatives. Be supportive of school/university collaborations.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership
Position Number
: FY 09-152
Reports to: Department Chairperson
Scope: This position will involve teaching and service in the Educational Leadership program. Specific responsibilities will include the teaching of graduate courses in the Masters in Educational Leadership degree and in the Principal and Superintendent Certification Program. Specific teaching assignments for the position will be matched with departmental needs and candidate expertise. This is a full-time non-tenure track position. This is a security-sensitive position subject to Texas Education Code 51.215 which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
Education: The applicant must hold and earned doctorate in the field of educational leadership and demonstrate a record of leadership positions in public education.
Experience: Preferred candidates will have successful higher education teaching experience; and ability to secure external funding; leadership experience in K-12 education settings; and experience in working with school boards, central office and campus personnel, parents and families, business leaders, and other community stakeholders. This position is contingent upon funding.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
