Teaching Interest:

Dr. McArthur teaches in the area of language and literacy including courses in secondary content area literacy, literacy issues with special populations, and reading assessment. Other teaching interests for Dr. McArthur include Language and Youth Culture, Sabal Palms Writing Project, Trends and Issues in Literacy Education, and Teacher Research.

AREA OF SPECIALTY AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Dr. McArthur's research includes three related strands in the area of adolescent literacy: reading and writing with diverse populations; situated learning and the development of academic literacy; and community funds of knowledge for curriculum development in the content areas. Currently she is researching situated language and apprenticeships in the disciplines in the field of content area literacy.
