Kevin Moreno will host a seminar titled "Gesture-Based Computing".
Date: Friday, February 8th, 2013
Time: 11:00 - 11:30 AM
Place: Rusteberg 103
Controlling devices through the use of gestures/body movements has become an increasingly common sight, and have allowed many users to interact with machines in a very natural way. Interacting with machines this way is referred to as gesture-based computing and is implemented in many devices such as tablets and smart phones that have gained wide popularity. Several recently released devices have created new opportunities for gesture-based computing, and have provided a means for a variety of different gesture-based computing applications to be developed. This seminar will cover an assortment of gesture-based computing research. In addition, I will present a proposal for a creation of an application using "Finger-Earth Mover's Distance" to detect if users hand is open or closed as well as covering a proof of concept surveillance security system utilizing this application.
