Research:
Under the supervision of Dr. Richard Kline, Rachel's thesis project at UTB will focus on the Artificial Reef Program created by Texas Parks and Wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico. Rachel received a bachelor's degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona in 2010 and has now begun a project examining the marine invertebrate population off the South Texas coast. The main site for her project will be the concrete culverts off of Port Mansfield. These culverts act as an artificial reef for numerous species of fish and marine invertebrates. Rachel hopes to understand the relationship between culverts and invertebrates and their role in attracting fish to the reefs.
