Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at Brownsville. We are focused on excellence in teaching, research and community service. Our department offers courses that cover the range of biological topics at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Current research interests cover a broad range of taxonomic groups (e.g. all things aquatic) to a variety of ecosystems (e.g., coastal marine, subtropical, thornscrub, and freshwater). In short, we attempt to study the local ecosystems and the organisms that depend upon them for survival. The nature of research is dynamic: please check back for changes and new opportunities. In the Department of Biological Sciences, we make every attempt to integrate our research into our teaching, providing students with a more complete, updated, and personal overview of the topics in question. Most of our faculty have students (both undergraduate and graduate) involved in research, and additional opportunities may exist. Please check out individual webpages for a more detailed summary of research topics and opportunities.
