PRE-HEALTH ADVISING
The following downloads will provide students with a general overview of the suggested sequence of courses in the listed tracks. All students should register and recieve initial advising by the Office of Health Professions Careers. For more information about programs, visit the Early Acceptance page.
Premed Track
Application to medical school requires the student to take the Medical College Admissions Test. The MCAT is usually taken in the undergraduate junior year, and it tests the student's verbal reasoning, knowledge of the biological and physical sciences, and writing skills. Pre-dental Track
Application to dental school requires the Dental Admission Test. The DAT is usually taken in the undergraduate junior year, and it tests the student's knowledge of the natural sciences, perceptual ability, reading comprehension and quantitative reasoning. Competitive applicants will have, at minimum, 100 job shadowing hours under a licensed health care practitioner in the area of interest. Job shadowing can consist of paid or volunteer work. Download the shadowing documentation form.
Most master's programs for physician assistants require the student to apply through the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants, or CASPA. Requirements vary depending on the individual university. Students should spend some time researching specific school requirements.
