In the 1980s, Tutoring Services was originally housed in the Texas Southmost College Oliveira Library prior to the partnership between the University of Texas system and Texas Southmost College in 1991. At this time, it was known only as a tutoring lab that offered writing and math tutoring.
In the mid-1990s, tutoring was moved to the then newly built North building, now known as Mary Rose Cardenas Hall North (MRCHN). The tutoring lab became the Learning Assistance Center and expanded services to include tutoring for reading, math, writing, academic skills for career technical students, ESL, and supplemental instruction. In 2006, student support services were reorganized under a Student Success Center, and the Learning Assistance Center became its Tutoring Services component.
