RNSG 1201 Pharmacology: Introduction to the science of pharmacology with emphasis on the actions, interactions, adverse effects, and nursing implications of each drug classification. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in safe administration of medication within a legal/ethical framework.

RNSG 1205 Nursing Skills: Study of the concepts and principles essential for demonstrating competence in the performance of nursing procedures. Study of specific nursing procedures demonstrated in a progressive manner from basic to complex, necessary to care for the client across the lifespan.

RNSG 1215 Health Assessment: Development in skills and techniques required for a comprehensive health assessment across the lifespan. Designed for students and beginning practitioners. Includes theory and skills necessary to collect a comprehensive health history and to perform and record a complete health assessment.

RNSG 1413 Foundations of Nursing Practice: Introduction to the role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.

RNSG 1160 Clinical Nursing RN: Foundations for Nursing Practice: This course provides opportunities for the Level I student to practice knowledge and skills being developed in RNSG 1205, RNSG 1215, and RNSG 1413 primarily in the care of well adults and adults with common health care needs in outpatient, long-term care and/or acute care settings. Emphasis is in developing the beginning student’s competencies in critical thinking, communication, therapeutic nursing interventions and use of the nursing process within the role of provider of care. The student is introduced to aspects of the nurse’s role as a coordinator of care and member of the nursing profession.

RNSG 1331 Principles of Clinical Decision Making: Examination of selected principles related to the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Emphasis on clinical decision making for clients in medical-surgical settings experiencing health problems involving fluid and electrolytes; perioperative care; pain; respiratory disorders; cardiac and peripheral vascular disorders; immunologic disorders; and infectious disorders. Discussion of knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.

RNSG 1347 Concepts of Clinical Decision Making: Integration of previous knowledge and skills into the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of a profession. Emphasis on clinical decision-making for clients in medical-surgical settings experiencing health problems involving gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine and metabolic disorders, reproductive and sexual disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, eye-ear-nose-throat disorders and integumentary disorders. Discussion of knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework.

RNSG 2208 Maternal Newborn Nursing and Women's Health: Study of concepts related to the provision of nursing care for normal childbearing families and those at risk, as well as wonen's health issues; competency in knowledge, judgment, skill, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework, including a focus on normal and high-risk needs for the childbearing family during the preconception, prenatal, intrapartum, neonatal, and postpartum periods; and consideration of selected issues in women's health.

RNSG 2341 Advanced Concepts of Clinical Decision-Making: Application of a systematic problem-solving process and critical thinking skills to provide comprehensive nursing care to diverse clients/families across the life span with complex health care needs including, but not limited to, complex childhood/adolescent diseases, complicated perinatal care, acute mental illness, complex perioperative care, serious adult health problems and health issues related to aging. Emphasis on tertiary disease prevention, health maintenance/restoration and collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary health care team. Topics include the role of the nurse as client advocate and coordinator of care and applicable competencies in knowledge, judgment, skills, and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course is taught in 10 weeks. One or more sections may be taught in 50% online - 50% classroom format.

RNSG 2361 Clinical Nursing RN: Preceptor An advanced type of health professions work-based instruction that helps students gain practical experience in the discipline, enhance skills, and integrate knowledge. The emphasis is on practical work experience for which the student has already acquired the necessary theoretical knowledge and basic skills. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional, generally a clinical preceptor. This course is taught in 4 weeks.
Prerequisite: All Level 1, 2, and 3 Nursing courses must be completed successfully to be admitted to this capstone clinical experience. Lec 0, Lab 0, Clin 9, Cr 3.
