dean's welcome
Congratulations! You’ve selected to consider entering The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) and the School of Health Sciences. You may be considering the health professions and one or more of the dozen health-career programs offered at UTB/TSC. You are making a wise choice for your career! Employment in the health-career fields is a given, today, and is expected to be among the highest demand careers over the next half-century. There is expected to be a shortage of more than 1 million nurses and as many as 2.5 million allied health professionals by 2020. SHS offers opportunities to engage in six certificate/degree fields of study within the Allied Health professions and four programs within nursing.
I sincerely encourage you to review these web pages telling of this extraordinary and unique university and its health career programs. Perhaps you were not aware of the more than four-decade history of UTB/TSC as an internationally-recognized institution dedicated to teaching and learning; one having a 400 acre-campus of exceptional tropical beauty nestled against the US-Mexico border and just 25 miles from the blue waters of South Padre Island. Perhaps you don’t know that all of our health-professional programs are nationally- accredited or certified. Perhaps you are not aware that typically more than 90% of the graduates of SHS pass their national examination to become licensed or registered nurses or allied health professionals. Perhaps you don’t know that UTB/TSC is the only university within the lauded University of Texas System that offers certificates and associate degree programs in nursing and allied health. Perhaps you don’t know that UTB/TSC offers baccalaureate degrees in both nursing and allied health fields and a master’s degree in nursing. Perhaps you don’t know that if you have an R.N. or an associate degree in a health career field you can achieve a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) or applied technology (BAT) entirely online, and perhaps you didn’t know that typically 100% of our SHS graduates are offered employment in their health care field; most during their studies.
I welcome you to explore the numerous health career programs and perhaps peruse the many other academic and technical programs offered by the School of Health Sciences and The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas South most College. Your choice is indeed a wise one… Good Luck… and, Bienvenidos!
