Border Walls: A Musical about Redbeard of the Rio Grande
This is the script and the piano and voice sheet music of a historical musical play about Brownsville’s controversial Juan Cortina, a hero to many and a bandit to others, who fought in and after the Mexican War against the American occupation and again in the two interlinked American and Mexican civil wars, this time as a governor of Tamaulipas, Mexico. All of the named parts represent figures from Brownsville and Matamoros’ colorful past. The events depicted are remarkable but true. The musical was first presented in 2004 by the UTB/TSC Bravo Opera Company under the direction of Amy Brownlow.
Brownsville: The Arnulfo L. Oliveira Literary Society Press, 2008 (Soft cover, $8).
