Athletics
UTB school spirit comes to life on the athletic field, where students and devoted fans join to cheer for the mighty Scorpions. As a supporter of UTB athletics, you can help make a difference in the academic goals of a student athlete – and in the school spirit of our university community.
Student athletes study, practice, work and travel to games, representing UTB in six sports: men's and women's soccer, men's and women's golf, men's baseball and women's volleyball.
A member of the 291-affiliate National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), UTB was distinguished in the 2009-10 season and received the Red River Athletic Conference All-Sports Award.
Approximately 110 student athletes enrolled every semester. About 40 percent come from the Rio Grande Valley. Many others, however, hail from abroad, with as many as 13 countries represented in Scorpion athletics during a given year.
Student athletes must meet academic criteria to be eligible to play their sport. Community service is a vital component of athletics at UTB, with student athletes participating in various activities to help out the community.
Winning is always a goal in athletics, but above all, UTB athletes focus on character as the NAIA promotes character training, good conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and promotion.
