The Arts Center Campaign
The inaugural “A Night of Strings” held at the center on Feb. 15, 2010, celebrated the fulfillment of one dream and the beginning of thousands more.
About 15 years ago, Fine Arts Department faculty first proposed a performing arts center for students at this comunity university. They recognized the need for an outstanding performance center for students to learn and perform in and to serve as a cultural magnet in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Several faculty members that year drove around Texas in a professor’s van touring performing arts centers and gathering ideas. The Arts Center begun as a dream, but with patience and hard work it became a reality.
With this state-of-the-art facility, our students can reach even higher. The Arts Center is more than a building: It is a place where dreams are born.
