The Publications team strives to complete all requested projects in a timely manner and takes clients’ deadlines seriously, but the Publications staff also requires a certain amount of time to work on each project. The deadlines listed below are important for a variety of reasons. The Publications Office staff has a high level of professionalism and realistically needs a minimum amount of time to produce the best quality of work that will be most effective for you. There are often high periods of demand when multiple offices are seeking design work at the same time – what’s called bottlenecking. Sometimes, an office will frantically insist that Publications personnel accommodate a last-minute job, but to accomplish that, the Publications Office has to put other projects on the back burner. Proper planning will allow for your department to get the highest quality product in the time you need.
Publications deadlines are arranged into three simple categories: small jobs, medium jobs and big jobs. If you have a small request, you need to give the Publications Office two weeks to execute your order. Larger requests require at least one month. All deadlines begin when copy is turned into the Publications Office. Here’s a breakdown of the deadlines:
Small Jobs (two weeks) Requests for simple projects, including: n Print and design directional signs n Print already designed posters n Design forms n Design letterhead n Print name tags
Medium Jobs (one month)* Requests for original design work, including: n Design and in-house printing of posters n Brochures, pamphlets, flyers, etc. n Displays n Invitations n Programs n Logos
Big Jobs (two months)* Requests for major design work, including: n Departmental marketing campaign n Series of brochures n Books or booklets (more than 24 pages) n Specialty item n Environmental graphics
If there is a question about what category your job fits into, please call Publications at 882-8224.
*Please note that if an off-campus printing vendor will be used, two more weeks will be added to the deadline to accommodate the bidding process and press work.
