Frequently Asked Questions

Following is a summary of topics that generally interest Advanced Placement Summer Institute participants.  If you find a topic that is not addressed, please contact us.


The College Board® requires APSI participants to attend a minimum of 90 percent of APSI courses in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Clothing and Climate

Dress for APSI courses is casual and comfortable.  Summer days in Brownsville tend to be hot and humid, so light clothing is essential.  Classrooms are air conditioned, and some can become quite cold; therefore, it is advisable to pack a sweater or light jacket.

Course Cancellations

Every effort to maintain the scheduled APSI courses.  However, events such as instructor illness, inclement weather or insufficient enrollment may require a schedule adjustment or cancellation.  We will notify participants of any course changes.


UTB provides a continental breakfast as well as a snack for the afternoon break. In addition, a light lunch is served. 

Payment Methods

The following methods may be used to pay for APSI tuition:

  • Check or money order, made payable to: The University of Texas at Brownsville
  • MasterCard® or VISA®
  • Online (Both, registration and payment will be taken.)
  • Purchase order
NOTE:  A purchase order does not constitute payment.  UTB must receive a check before registration is considered complete. (BISD participants must provide a purchase order to register.)


Refunds and Transfers

Refund requests (for cancellations) must be made in writing before the registration deadline of Monday, May 15, 2013.  A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from all refunds.  No refunds will be made after the registration deadline; however, a registration may be transferred to another instructor from the same school or district up to two weeks before the beginning of APSI.


Participants may register in any one of four ways:

Tuition and Deadlines

Registration and fees are due no later than May 15, 2013. Registrations received after the deadline will be accepted on a space-available basis only. Participants will receive acknowledgement of enrollment via e-mail sent to your school or personal e-mail, or a letter sent to your home address.  If you have not received confirmation by May 15, 2013, please contact us.
