Mariachi Ocelotetlán Present 'A Night of Fiesta and Romance'

BROWNSVILLE, TEXASOCTOBER 30, 2013- The internationally known mariachi of The University of Texas at Brownsville, Mariachi Ocelotetlán, will present “A Night of Fiesta and Romance" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Under the direction of Antonio Briseño, Associate Professor of Music the students will perform favorites such as Jalisco, Somos Novios and many other pieces traditional to all mariachi and new songs such as Shaila Durcal's Convenceme, and Nydia Rojas, El Jaripeo. The fall concert is also traditionally held on or before Nov. 22 to honor
Saint Cecilia, the acclaimed patron saint of music, especially church music, as well as that of musicians, composers, instrument makers and poets.
Admission is $5 for UTB or TSC students with student ID cards and $7 for general admission.
Tickets may be purchased in the UTB Department of Music in Eidman Music Hall, Room 107 A, from mariachi members or at the box office. All proceeds will benefit student scholarship awards for the spring semester.
In May, Mariachi Ocelotetlán was invited by Herzen State Pedagogical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. They performed at several university and civic venues.
“It was an incredible opportunity for our mariachi student musicians, really a trip-of-a-lifetime that they will never forget,” said Briseno.
