Hector Aguilar and Steven Fry won second and third places, respectively, in the UT-Pan American Solo Guitar Competition. Entrants from all over Texas participated in this event, which is only one of two solo collegiate level guitar competitions in the State.
The One O’Clock Guitars will play a special concert at the Loyola University College of Music in New Orleans on August 9, 2013. The guitarists (Jose Villarreal, Clemente Rivera, Hector Aguilar, Sergio Hernandez, Freddy De la Garza, Steven Fry, Michael Keplinger) have been rehearsing since the end of the spring semester in preparation for this major venue concert. The Loyola College of Music & Fine Arts is sponsoring the concert and they have reserved their premium hall for the event. The performers are looking forward to performing a high-energy program and have already scouted some fabulous restuarants!
Dr. Michael Quantz will be one of the featured presenters at the Austin Classical Guitar Society Summer Teacher Workshops August 1st through 3rd. The ACGS director, Dr. Matthew Hinsley, is convening some of the most varied and highly successful guitar teachers from the region to provide training to K-12 music teachers from all over Texas.
Dr. Jonathan Dotson is performing a two week tour of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain this July. This is the second year he has been invited to give a series of concerts in historic churches along the traditional pilgrimage route reaching across northwestern Spain. Pilgrims and locals will attend the concerts as Dr. Dotson travels along the route providing highly skilled performances in these old world settings.
