Dr. Karin Ann Lewis is an Assistant Professor of Cognition and Learning in the Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies in the University of Texas at Brownsville’s College of Education. Dr. Lewis earned her BA in English from Cornell University, her MS in Human Development and Education from the University of Rochester in a Joint Educational Specialist Program with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Lewis was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She has lived in Massachusetts, New York, Switzerland and Kentucky, and she now calls Deep South Texas’ Rio Grande Valley her home!

Area of Specialty and Responsibility:

Dr. Lewis’ research interests include: developmental dimensions of personal epistemology, metacognition, and cognitive development; inclusive social construction of knowledge; learning strategy selection; experiential learning and thinking and learning in the context of change, cross cultural acclimation and life transitions. As an educator who genuinely believes in making a difference, Dr. Lewis considers it an honor and privilege to teach and mentor future educators.  

Responsibilities include serving on the new university, UT-RGV, Education Work Group and Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Board, and the UTB Advisory Board for the Center for Civic Engagement.
